Practical Precision Gunsmith's FAQCan my fire arm be repaired? The answer usually is, yes! It first needs to be disassembled, cleaned and inspected to determine the actual problem and if it can be repaired. Sometimes it will also need to be test fired to pinpoint the actual cause of the problem. In most fire arms, the problem turns out to be a small spring, screw or part that is worn, damaged, or broken. Some malfunctioning fire arms just need a complete disassembling, a thorough cleaning, and lubrication to be back in good working order. Bue we won't know until it is all apart and any damages are accessed. Guns with parts missing may be repaired, as long as the missing parts can be found or made. If the part needs to be handmade, then the actual amount of time needed to hand manufacture the missing piece may cost you more the the overall value of the fire arm. Most guns can be repaired but some may not be in good enough condition to justify spending the money to do the repairs. If the gun is old and is worth only $75.00 and has repairs will cost more than that, then usually it's not worth fixing unless it holds a lot sentimental value for you. We will give you the total assessment cost BEFORE we actually start the repairs if over the pre-approved spending limit.
We stock a decent selection of commonly needed parts, but there is no way any we (or ANY gun shop) can carry every part for all the makes and models of fire arms that were made over the last 100 years (or more). Some parts we can make. Most parts will need to be ordered from our suppliers to get the correct part. Then the wait time might be a bit longer waiting for the shipping, but usually will be less expensive than if we had to hand manufacture it for you. What will it cost to repair Gun? We have a listed our prices for many repairs, but we cannot give you a total cost until we have disassemble and inspected your fire arm. Once we have completely disassembled, cleaned, test fired if needed and inspected your firearm, then we can call you with an actual estimate of of the repairs cost. A written estimate can also be prepared and will be mailed to you if required. As soon as you give us the go-ahead to do the actual work, then we will start repairing your firearm.
